Graeme and Evelyn Stewart
We have been married for nearly 30 years and have three grown up children, James, Sarah-Jane and Thomas. Graeme’s professional background is in finance and Evelyn’s is in health.
In 1997 we took our three children to live in Kathmandu, Nepal where we worked with International Nepal Fellowship. We loved our three years in Nepal and when the time came to return to UK, we returned with heavy hearts, not truly sure how we would next serve God. We remained in UK while our children completed their education.
In 2006 we bought a sadly neglected farmhouse and stables just outside the little French village of St Georges de Reintembault, on the Brittany/Normandy border. We set about renovating the property completely on our own, doing everything from basic decoration and tiling to electrics, plumbing and roofing. After two years of hard days and aching joints the project was completed.
We knew that God had entrusted this beautiful and tranquil place to us, and we have always had a great desire to share it with others. From our very earliest thoughts we imagined youth groups kicking a football in the garden, families playing together, friends sharing meals together, and others finding time for quiet prayer and reflection.
What we actually saw over the next few years was more than we could have hoped for. We have been moved by the sound of men’s voices drifting across the garden as they sang praises to God, children’s laughter, young peoples’ personal stories, passionate prayers and we have watched as new friendships have been formed. We have been blessed by those that have passed through, and we know that they have been blessed by being here.
Sadly the current financial climate has now led us to have to take up work again in the UK for part of the year, and we are therefore no longer able to offer all year round accommodation. We are however still able to offer self catered accomoodation to families in the spring and summer months.
We thank God for this place and we invite you to come and share it with us for while.
