The local area

La Grande Connais is situated two miles outside the village of St Georges de Reintembault on the Normandy/Brittany border. There are many beautiful places to visit nearby.

Mont St Michel

Mont St Michael has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries and today it still holds the same interest and fascination that it always did.

A causeway now links the island to the mainland, so the mount can be visited at any time of day, or maybe just viewed across the bay from the distance of a quiet beach.

Rennes

The ancient town of Rennes with its half timbered buildings is also well worth a visit as is the walled town of St Malo.

At both you will find open air markets on certain days and tiny cobbled streets in which you can enjoy shops selling local crafts as well as local delicacies.

If ‘people watching’ is more your thing then all you need do is sit in one of the many pavement cafes and watch the world pass by.

Fougeres Castle

Nearby at Fougeres you will find one the largest medieval castles in Europe.

Slightly further afield at Villedeau-les-Poelles you can enjoy the bell foundry and all the shops selling brass, copper and pewter ware.

Carolles Beach

If quiet walks and isolation are what you are looking for then there are plenty of sandy beaches, countryside and forests to visit such as the Forest of Fougeres with its beautiful lake.

American War Cemetery at St. James

As you pass through the towns and villages you will note that most bear a reminder of the high price paid by so many to secure our freedom. It is hard not to be touched by some of the memorials you will see.

The D-Day beaches along the northern coast are easily accessible from here in about 1 ½ hours, and just a few miles from us at the American War Cemetery in St. James lie more than 4400 soldiers. There is also a War Museum at nearby Avranches.

For The Children

There are many places that the children will love to visit including The Grand Aquarium at St Malo, Aligator Bay (reptile centre), Combac Theme Parc, Zoo Champrerus, La Bourbansias (zoo and chateau), La Village Enchante, Ange Michel (water park just 15 minutes away, an absolute favourite with our guests) as well as swimming, bowling, horse riding, canoe hire, cycle hire, and of course the beaches.
